Get the Brooms Back Out

Wow, lots to update here. 3 game sweep of the Dodgers, including a gem by Lee, the usual from Halladay, and an offensive shootout that the phils started winning when I switched seats at the bar. A 9-1 road trip, best by the club ever, ever, eva. Now Wednesday's game was one where this blogs title comes into play. Had someone at the bar laughing, saying the phils were buried, they couldn't hit out of a 6 run deficit. But that was only the 4th.

Up next, a three game set against the Natinals (first game underway as your humble blogger types). Note to self: Self, ask Tom how to get pictures in the posts.

Put Away the Brooms

"Damn Hippies"

Roy Oswalt made his way back into the rotation Sunday and gave up 3 runs in 6 innings to take the loss vs. the Giant's Tim Lincecum. Sadly, the loss brought an end to a 9 game winning streak as well as hopes for a 4 game sweep. While Oswalt let up a career high 12 hits, he was able to limit the damage to 3 one run innings. The offense couldn't back him up in the tough loss. The good news though is that the Phillies have won the season series, and had this been a seven game post season series, they would have won Saturday.

Here's hoping Oswalt can stay healthy through the final two months of the year and the four aces can be reunited once again. This was a good step towards that goal.

Brawl by the Bay

Vic was having none of that

It only took until the fifth game of this heated season series, but the benches finally cleared last night when Giants reliever Ramon Ramirez drilled Victorino in the back. He took a step, Ramon took a step, and suddenly, we had a brawl on our hands. The Phillies were already up 8-2 by that point. They went on to win 9-2 in the second consecutive drubbing of the Giants. Maybe they really don't think this series means anything more than another few games, but it's clear they're going at it hard.

It was the Phillies eighth straight victory which happens to coincide with the arrival of Hunter Pence to the lineup. For the first time this year, you can look at that lineup and feel good top to bottom. That's something they'll need to keep going if they want to make another run in the playoffs this year.
